May Day Scenes 1: Bride of SEIU

On April 30th, there was a rumor on the internet that the local SEIU union was planning a "Wisconsin-Style Occupation of San Francisco City Hall," which made me think, "Oh, dear, they have Midwestern Labor Solidarity Envy." By 7:30 PM, whatever occupation was planned had been abandoned and City Hall was eerily empty.

Besides the sheriffs at the Polk Street entrance, the only persons in the building seemed to be a bride and groom rehearsing a photo shoot.

There were a few SEIU stragglers chatting each other up on the Polk Street stairs outside, including the ineffable Gabriel Haaland above right.

I asked former Supervisor Chris Daly, above left, if they were occupying City Hall overnight, and he said, "No, it didn't make much sense since there was nobody at all in the building, and the only people we were bothering was the bride who was roaming around."

Right on cue, the young lady in question arrived for a photo shoot at City Hall's entrance.
